Soaked In Scripture Series – Memorizing the Bible One Verse at a Time – Week 2
I am currently working through a 14-day devotional from Illustrated Faith called “I Am”. While I was reading the scripture one day, I continued on reading past the foundational scripture. The verse that I read really threw me for a loop. 1 John 4:20 says, “If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?”
Whoa! Does this verse apply when I go to the grocery store and someone is taking up an entire aisle, not bothering to move out of the way or practice common grocery store courtesy, and I want to give them a piece of my mind, or at the very least, throw sharp daggers their way?? I would say I am kind of hating on that person. I certainly hate the grocery store. So, I can’t very well leave there with all this hate in my heart and claim to love God.
