Celebrating Dependence Day

Celebrating Dependence Day

CELEBRATING DEPENDENCE DAY – DEPENDENCE ON GOD

Today I am celebrating Independence Day along with countless other Americans. I’m also celebrating my DEPENDENCE on God. Because of my independence that so many have fought and died to defend, I am able to freely celebrate my dependence on God.

What does dependence on God look like for you? Easy? Hard? For me, dependence on God means I let go of worry and fear. Worry of the future, worry of my finances, worry of things that I cannot control. It means letting go of fear of failure and worry of acceptance. It means trusting Him with my marriage and not trying to control every aspect of my life and other’s lives. Easy? Not at all!

Be Uncomfortable by Megan Daulton – A Guest Blog

www.megandaulton.com

Hi everyone! I have a guest on my blog this week. Her name is Megan Daulton, and she is the wife of our youth pastor at our church. But, that is not why I asked Megan to guest here. I asked her because when I read her first blog post I could clearly see that she has a heart for God and a burning desire to live her life for HIM. Very refreshing for a young woman her age.

I hope you enjoy this article as much as I did, and I also hope that you will leave a comment of encouragement and congratulations to Megan on her new adventure!

Soaked In Scripture Series – Memorizing the Bible One Verse at a Time – Week 1

Soaked In Scripture Series – Memorizing the Bible One Verse at a Time – Week 1

If you are anything like me, memorizing scripture is not an easy task. I have a few favorites that I have memorized and that is it. That is NOT a good thing!!

There are so many reasons that having scripture memorized is so very important. This time last year my mom passed away. No one knew that she was sick and within a month she was gone. I knew that my mom believed in God, but I was not sure what her personal relationship with Jesus really was so when I was not at the hospital with her, I was looking up scriptures that I could take back with me to talk to her about. When I spoke with her she was able to nod her head to let me know that she heard me and that she believed Jesus was her Lord and Savior. I know where my mom is now and that brings me tremendous comfort. But, it would have been nice to have had those verses memorized!

Why I Love Tracing in My Bible and YOU Will Too!

Printables Make Bible Journaling Easy.

It’s been a few days since I have been able to really sit down and do some Bible journaling. Life is so fast that before you know it several days have went by and still no time to journal! That’s why I am so thankful for those who offer free printables that I can trace in my Bible. Oh, how I love printables and here are a few reasons why:

  • I’m not an artist, so anything that I can trace into my Bible that makes me FEEL like Picasso is a blessing!
  • Tracing with a FREE printable is easy and fun. You simply print the image, lay it behind your Bible page and trace.
  • This method gives me more time to really focus on God’s Word instead of spending time wondering what verse to use with what image, what colors to use, what mediums to use, and so on.
  • The maker of the printable does all of the work for you, you simply enjoy the process.

Juggling Work and Parenting – How to Keep it All Flowing

Juggling Work and Parenting – How to Keep it All Flowing

Facebook makes parenting look easy, doesn’t it? Every post is of happy smiling kids and parents enjoying an outing or making some super cool homemade project. I’m admiring their pictures wondering how they are juggling life to look so happy and content.

That’s not what my experience is with juggling work and parenting! Let’s take for example last Saturday. I had ONE thing on my to-do list that I really, really needed to get done, and that was to go buy a few things we needed for dinner that weekend. Kind of important–eating. So it’s 3 o’clock and I realized that I did not go and buy the food. The problem was the store that I needed to buy the items from closed at 3. It’s almost like life was mocking me that I realized exactly at the time of closing that I needed food!!

Who forgets to buy food for their family?! Apparently, me. There is so much happening in life that it is hard to keep it straight and orderly. Don’t you think? Kids, work, husbands, errands, chores, starting a new business, cooking, social life (what?), hobbies (what, what?), the list goes on and on. I feel like there is so much to do and so many things that need my attention, that NONE of those things get enough of my attention.

So what are we to do?! First off, give yourself some grace. Yes, the same grace that we are told to extend to others, pass a little on to yourself. I surely wasn’t feeling like mom or wife of the year last weekend, but we made it work. We went out to eat a lot, but whatever, we still ate! Beating yourself up doesn’t help and it sure isn’t going to make dinner for you! Don’t trash talk yourself into thinking you are inadequate!

Sign Your Child Up For FREE Books

Sign up for Free Books from Dolly Parton's Imagination Library
Register your child for a free book delivered monthly!

When my son was around 5 months old I learned about Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. This program sends free books to millions of children each month. Mine included! Cameron loves to get his book every month and it is absolutely free!

It took me a minute to wrap my mind around that concept. My child signs up on a website and gets a brand new book delivered to our home every month for free?! No strings, no commitment, nothing I need to do?! Nope, that is it!!

I want to say that he will get these books until he is 5 years old, but I’m not sure that is completely accurate, so if any of you know the age limit for sure, please let me know.

I read to my son every single night and, I’m telling you, his vocabulary at just turning two is pretty impressive. I’m positive that reading to him often has had a big impact in that area.

My local library has a sign-up area on their website. Your local library probably does too! You can also register your child directly on the Imagination Library website here.

Summertime is the perfect time to get your children involved in reading. It helps their own imaginations soar and is an awesome aid in developing their learning skills well before they are old enough to enter school.

What are some of your child’s favorite books? My son likes to read Arthur, McDuff, Llama, Llama, and lots of others. Share with us your child’s favorites in the comment section.

Also, for the adults, check out my bookshelf page here to see what I’m reading!

Happy reading,

Kim

Surviving the Terrible Twos!!

Mommy and Cameron (forty-two and two)!

This is Cameron. He is the “two” of “forty two and two”. He is the cutest, most fun-loving little boy ever, but he has a dark side. It’s a condition called the temper-tantrums of the terrible twos. This condition has brought this mama to tears, and had me considering jumping in my car and driving forever!

Now, I know this is a temporary condition and this stage shall pass, but how do I keep my cool in the meantime? There has been days that I have felt like a complete failure as his mom because it seems I can’t control these outbursts. They sneak up out of nowhere and usually in full public view. I have suggested to my husband that we just stay indoors until he is 18, but my husband enjoys the outdoors.

The bright side to his dark side is that I run to my Bible often and pray fervently for strength and patience. God will get me through this time, with reminders that I will miss these days, and that Cameron is the most precious gift I could have received from God.

God will also give me moments of little chubby hands grabbing mine and telling me to “c’mon mommy”. He will allow me to feel little boy kisses and hugs. He will open my ears to hear my son tell me how pretty I am and that he loves me. He will keep my heart from exploding when my boy tells me “no go to work, sit down, mommy!”

Yes, God will get me through this time and give me the strength I need for another day.

Are you a mom experiencing the “terrible twos” (or threes or fours or fives)? Then please leave me a comment with your go-to tips on keeping your sanity! I could use all the encouragement that I could get right now!!

Blessings,

Kim

God’s Plan ‘vs’ the World’s View

I shared a little bit with you about having my son at age 40. If I can be honest with you all, it was a TOUGH time for me. When I first found out I was expecting, I cried for a solid month. Not your typical response to expecting a child. I was very selfish at that time, focusing a lot on ME and how MY plans were going to have to change. To sum it up, I didn’t want another baby. Jeremiah 1:5 came up a lot during this time. Thank GOD! “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” God already knew my baby and had formed a relationship with him!
