CELEBRATING DEPENDENCE DAY – DEPENDENCE ON GOD

Today I am celebrating Independence Day along with countless other Americans. I’m also celebrating my DEPENDENCE on God. Because of my independence that so many have fought and died to defend, I am able to freely celebrate my dependence on God.

What does dependence on God look like for you? Easy? Hard? For me, dependence on God means I let go of worry and fear. Worry of the future, worry of my finances, worry of things that I cannot control. It means letting go of fear of failure and worry of acceptance. It means trusting Him with my marriage and not trying to control every aspect of my life and other’s lives. Easy? Not at all!Letting go of those things and depending on God to keep his promises is H-A-R-D–hard! Jesus says in Matthew 16:24, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.” (NKJV) Meaning each and everyday I have to deny my desire to control my surroundings and let God take control. Every. Single. Day.

Even letting God take care of my children is hard. The very same children that He blessed and entrusted me with. The same children that He knows how to best handle. Letting God take control and trusting that my prayers of protection over my children is sufficient and I don’t have to worry. He is in control.

Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.” (NKJV)

Just as gaining independence for our country required determination, sacrifice, hard-work, strategy, planning, preparation, and prayer; so does my dependence on God. It is not something that comes naturally to me or to many others. It is something that takes dedication and vision.

This Independence Day, I will celebrate all that I have through Christ and count my blessings; including the blessing of living in this great nation. I will continue to strive today and each day of the year to celebrate complete dependence on Him.

Warmly,

Kim
